How small is a virus?

This diagram clearly shows how small the particles are that are removed from a Cleanroom.

You can’t see them, but how small are they really?
As our work revolves around the smallest particles that are invisible to the eye, we tried to illustrate the size of a virus on a diagram. And because it kept us busy for so long, we used a coronavirus for this.

A corona virus has an approximate size of 0.1 µm.

  • Imagine a grain of fine dust lying on a hair (yellow balls).
  • There is still plenty of room for bacteria on this grain (blue balls).
  • And each bacterium could in turn harbor vast quantities of viruses (red spheres)

That’s how small viruses are.
