With the Act on the Amendment of Narcotics Regulations, which came into force in 2017, the legislator has expanded the options for prescribing cannabis medicines in Germany. Since then, doctors have also been able to prescribe medicinal cannabis flowers or cannabis extract in pharmaceutical quality on a narcotics prescription. The regulations still differ in each European country. While cannabis products were previously only imported in Germany, as cultivation is still prohibited, the processing of cannabis for medical purposes is now expected to be approved towards the end of 2020.
