Pioneers of cleanroom technology
In the 1990s, when cleanrooms were still less common, our founder Günther Schilling recognized the need for particle-free environments and developed Germany’s first room-in-room cleanroom system in his garage. This innovative system laid the foundation for Schilling Engineering GmbH.
Today, with around 80 employees at its headquarters in Wutöschingen, the company is run by Ute and Gaby Schilling, who took over the management in 2023.
Numerous awards, including the Großer Preis des Mittelstandes (2020) and the plaque of honor from the Oskar Patzelt Foundation (2022), as well as the LEA Mittelstandspreis and the Wirtschaftsmagnet (2021/22), confirm our success.

From start-up to global player
In 1998, Günther Schilling started out in his garage with a pioneering idea: a flexible “room-in-room system”. Over 25 years later, Schilling Engineering has established numerous patents and branded products on the market.
The first fully automated GMP-A sterile production cell was delivered in 1999, followed by Europe’s first room-in-room clean room system the following year – an industry-defining innovation.
The company has always remained a pioneer: in 2007, the CR-Control control system with touchscreen control set new standards, followed by the energy-efficient, networked CleanCell4.0 cleanroom system in 2017. With a growing team and customers throughout Europe, Schilling Engineering is now a leading provider of cleanroom technology and an important part of the regional economy in the Upper Rhine region.
Since 2023, the twins Ute and Gaby Schilling have been managing the company, dividing their areas of responsibility according to their professional experience: Ute in sales and engineering and Gaby in purchasing, controlling and IT. This division allows them to continue the company’s success story with fresh ideas and the same passion.

Focus on sustainability
For us, sustainability is not just a word, but a lived practice. We attach great importance to the responsible use of resources – and this is reflected in every area of our company.
In most months, our buildings and production are supplied 100% with self-generated electricity. This is made possible by our large-scale photovoltaic systems on the roofs and the use of a heat pump. In the winter months, we supplement this mix with green electricity from regional hydropower.
Intelligent technology also helps us to save energy: The heating and cooling capacities of our buildings are controlled via programmable thermostats to optimize energy consumption. In corridors and sanitary areas, a motion detector control system ensures that lighting is adjusted to suit requirements. And most of the electricity we generate ourselves flows directly into our 4 e-charging stations for the hybrid and electric vehicles in our fleet.
This sustainable philosophy is also reflected in our products. Our cleanrooms are designed to minimize energy consumption over their entire life cycle. Thanks to user-led and holistic control, clean air supply and lighting can be precisely adjusted depending on the process. Our innovative air circulation technology keeps cooled and filtered air in circulation, which significantly reduces costly air conditioning. With LED lighting and energy-efficient high-performance filters, we also rely on components that ensure low energy consumption in the long term.
