Field report self-assembly CNC cleanroom - Avenns Medical GmbH

"Setting up the cleanroom felt like team building"

Rarely have we received feedback on our product that made us as happy as Martina Mitrovic's. The young scientist is COO of Austrian start-up Avenns Medical, which has developed a completely new approach to cardiac therapy using a shock wave applicator. The young company recently ordered a cleanroom as a self-construction kit from Schilling Engineering.

Sometimes our customers doubt whether our information about the ease of assembly of our cleanroom kit is really true. Not everyone has trained technicians or skilled craftsmen on their staff. And anyone who has ever despaired over a cupboard from a Swedish furniture store will not necessarily be enthusiastic about building an entire cleanroom themselves.

Martina Mitrovic felt the same way, as she freely admits when we call her: "The functionality and quality of Schilling Engineering's cleanroom convinced me, the company has well-known references and makes a good impression. The price was also right," she says happily on the phone. "What worried me more was the question of whether we would really be able to build the cleanroom in the short time promised with our team of non-specialists and, above all, in such a way that everything would be assembled and work properly."

On the day of delivery, the six Avenns employees who had to set up the cleanroom were a little nervous.  It was a bit of a struggle at first, as unloading the lorry required some improvisation due to the lack of space on site, and the large components had to be moved up to the second floor one by one. The actual assembly, however, put Martina Mitrovic and her team in a good mood: "We put the pieces together one by one, hand in hand. The instructions were very clear and we never felt we were doing anything wrong. The cleanroom grew quickly and we could really see the progress. At a certain point we started to really enjoy it, it was a real team effort, young and old helped out, it felt like a kind of team building.

After twelve hours of working together, the cleanroom was ready for use. With 36 square metres of space, an integrated airlock and plenty of daylight, it provides a controlled environment in which to test and develop new products for the growing company.
