What is the difference between a cleanroom and a Clean not Classified (CNC) area?

Cleanrooms and CNC controlled areas are rooms in which air quality and particle levels are controlled to protect products and processes from contamination and to prevent loss of quality. The basic design of both types is similar.
The main difference between the two types is the maximum permissible particle size and therefore the sizing of the ventilation and filtration technology. Whether a cleanroom is required or a CNC area is sufficient depends on the process. If a particle size of 5 µm in the air is not necessarily to be avoided, a cleanroom is a good solution.
